I don’ know much this week, as I’ve had this awful cough/hay fever/cold/whatever for two weeks now and am really and truly over it.
I do know that the only thing that helps is tea with lemon juice and honey.
I know that I’m finally seeing the doctor next week.
I had a sick child home for two days and even though he is reasonably good at entertaining himself, I know that I need the child-free time I get during school hours to maintain my sanity. I get very snappy and shouty when I am with them 24 hours a day, especially now that I don’t get the fortnightly respite that my mum provided in Melbourne.
My six year-old is trying his old oppositional tricks on both me and his teachers. I am thankful that they are taking a hard line with him, which complements my approach at home. I know that we are currently experiencing the storm before the calm, as he tries to push at the boundaries that are being reinforced. I know this will be good for everyone in the long run.
I know that he doesn’t really hate school, he is simply not impressed with not getting his own way.
This morning he would not get dressed, would not have breakfast, would not anything. So I packed his clothes in his bag and stuffed him in the car (not literally) in his pyjamas. I made sure we left early, giving him plenty of time to get dressed in the car, which he did without complaint. I suspect that he enjoyed the novelty value, but I sincerely hope it doesn’t become a habit.
I know that I’m glad I finally wrote this post. It had been brewing in my head for a few months. I had several goes at writing it, before it finally came to me, as I was sitting in dappled shade on the foreshore at Palm Cove, while the boys played in the playground. I know I didn’t appreciate the green ants that kept invading my space, even if, apparently, they are edible.
OK, so maybe I do know a few things this week 🙂 Now it’s time for another cup of tea.
